1. Choose the Right Twitter Profile Picture

Before you can get more Twitter followers, you have to make sure that your profile is set up in a way that will make others want to follow you.

First impressions are very important and within just a few seconds of someone visiting your Twitter profile, they’ll make up their mind if they want to follow you or not.

That’s why it’s important to have a good profile picture and more specifically, a good headshot.

The Benefits of a Good Headshot

Putting a picture of your face helps others to connect with you.

It also gives others the impression that you’re an approachable and honest person.

Research shows that people who don’t show their face in their profile can be perceived as either hiding something or as being impersonal.

The result is that people don’t feel like they’re connecting with you.

That’s why you’ll get the best results if you put a headshot of yourself with a facial gesture that makes others feel like you’re approachable.

That just means that you should feel free to smile because happy people are almost always easy to approach :-).

Here’s what you need to do:

Get Rid of the Egg

The default Twitter eggWhen you first created your Twitter account, the default picture profile is set to the famous Twitter egg.

Most people will change the Twitter picture but some people will just keep the image of the egg and that’s a HUGE no no!

Why?

Because people don’t want to follow an egg, they want to follow real people!

Also, there are many spammers who create multiple Twitter accounts so that they can spam other people and send them marketing messages.

Chances are good that you’ve already come across some of these folks.

They’re the ones who tell you that you can, “win a free iPad” or ask you to“enter your e-mail address to win a free computer”.

These guys often don’t change their Twitter profile picture because they create tens of Twitter accounts.

You don’t want to be associated with this type of account.

Also, not changing your picture from the default egg image tells others that you don’t take your Twitter account very seriously and it’ll slow down your follower growth.

What Should Your Profile Picture Look Like?

A good example of a Twitter profile picture

Your Twitter profile picture should be a headshot of you looking into the camera. Make sure you aren’t frowning in your picture and that you look approachable.

Ask a friend or family member to critique the picture that you’re planning to use.

If your Twitter account belongs to a company or organization, then you can use your logo.

Also keep in mind that you do have the option to have a personal picture for your company’s Twitter account if you like.

Once you’re done you can go to step 2.
