Did you know that there are more than 320 million gods that are being worshiped today? (Source)
A majority of those come from Hinduism, which has millions of gods as a part of its religion.
The problem of there being so many claims to deity by many religions is that you can easily get confused as to which one is real, and which ones aren’t.
It’s also easy to be overwhelmed and to take a look at all of the deities and to say,”Forget it, I’m not going to look into this whole God thing at all.”
This article is for three types of people:
1. Non-Christians who are searching for God
2. People who believe in a different religion other than Christianity and are satisfied with their faith
3. Christians who want to know what distinguishes the Christian God from others gods
The Biggest Regret in Your Life
I believe that the biggest disappointment you can have in your life is believing in the wrong God.
I say this because I’m a former atheist who made the mistake of thinking that there is no God.
The reason I say that the biggest regret in your life is believing in the wrong god is because when you and I die, we don’t actually die.
Our spirit or soul continues to live either in a place called heaven or in a place called hell.
You may not believe in heaven or hell. That’s fine for the moment, but I urge you to start doing research about your position.
That’s because if you’re wrong about the existence of God, heaven, and hell, then the consequences of your choice are eternal.
That means that you’re going to have to live with your decision for the rest of time.
5 Surprising Reasons to Believe in the Christian God
I’ve put together a list of five reasons why you and I should believe in the Christian God, and not any other god from the other religions.
So in no particular order, here they are.
Reason #1 – The Christian God is the Only God That Claims to Have a Relationship With You
When I was an atheist, there was a time when I did a lot of research about religions.
One of the things that I found that makes Christianity stand out from the other religions is that the God of Christianity claims to have a relationship with His followers.
All of the gods in the other religions are either distant, unapproachable, or not available.
That’s not the case with the Christian God.
God wants to hear from you and also to communicate to you.
I’ve written a blog post before about the five different ways that God can communicate to you.
I think the reason having a relationship with God makes the Christian God so unique is because you have billions of Christians who have testified of this since the year 33 A.D.
That was the year that Jesus Christ died and resurrected.
That event was what gave Christians the ability to have a relationship with God.
There’s more about this subject in this next section.
One Thing That Makes Christianity Unique
I think it’s possible for people of different religions to be wrong about their god.
I also believe it’s possible for atheists to be wrong about their being a lack of a God.
But it’s very difficult for Christians to be wrong about their claims about God because they make a different kind of claim.
Their claim is a relationship with God, and that they can communicate with Him every day.
Communication means that they can speak to and also hear from God.
Could it be that millions of people have hallucinations every day about hearing from God?
You might want to say yes. But the problem with that is that Christians have experiences that are aligned with the Bible.
For example, Christians can go to God with a financial problem, and He will answer us.
Christians can go to God with questions about their kids, or their marriage, and He will give them answers.
How does He communicate with His children?

Reason #2 – The Christian God Is the Only God Who Can Predict the Future 100% Accurately
To understand this point, you have to understand this one crucial thing about the Bible.
The Bible is not one book. The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by 40 different authors over a period of about 1500 years. Click To Tweet
The Bible is a spiritual book, and so Christians believe that these 40 different authors were moved by God to write them.
2 Peter 1:21 says about how the Bible was written was that “…holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”
The way that we can test to see if this claim is true is to see if God’s past predictions about the future were accurate.
One excellent example of a prophecy that came true is from the prophet Micah.
In 700 BC, Micah wrote that the promised Messiah (Jesus) would be born in Bethlehem.
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
Of course, this prophecy later came true when Jesus was born hundreds of years later.

Reason #3 – The Christian God Was the Only God That Was 100% Scientifically Accurate During the Dark Ages
Remember how I said that the Bible was written over a period of 1500 years a long time ago?
Well during that time, most of the people thought some things about the world that we today know are wrong.
They believed things like:
- The Earth is flat
- The sun revolves around the earth
- The earth was carried on the shoulders of a mythical God called Atlas
- And many other scientifically wrong things
However, during these ancient times, the Bible made different claims about the universe. These claims we now know are true.
- The earth is round
- Job 26:10 tells us that God “has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters at the boundary of light and darkness.”
- The sun is on a circuit through space
- David said about the sun in Psalm 19:6, “Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end.”
- The earth is suspended on nothing
- Job 26:7, “He [God] hangs the Earth on nothing.”

Reason #4 – The Christian God is the Only God Who Displays the Highest Form of Love
If you had to give up the life of your son or daughter to save a stranger, would you do it?
The answer is of course not.
I have two kids and I would not give up their life to save anybody. I’m just being honest.
But God gave up His only Son to save the world.
It was something that was very difficult to do, and can really only be understood once you understand the implications.
But basically, it comes down to this:
Reason #5 – The Christian God is the Only God who Wrote a 100% Accurate Book
There is a ton of misinformation that is taught about the Bible.
Muslims believe that the Bible has been corrupted.
Atheists believe that there are errors in the Bible.
My humanities teacher in high school taught that the Bible was written by community groups hundreds of years ago.
The best advice that I can give you is to do your best to do your own unbiased research about the accuracy of the Bible.
It’s very difficult to do unbiased research because our beliefs and emotions get in the way.
But it may be possible.
For what it’s worth, I’d like to share with you this excellent article on the amazing accuracy of the Bible.

But Wait, There’s Testimonies of Changed Lives
An additional reason to believe in the Christian God over any other God is because of the amazing testimony of changed lives by Christians.
The Bible says that when you become a believer in Jesus, then you are a new creation. Old things have passed away and all things are new.
That means that you have a new heart and new desires.
I went to some of my Twitter friends and I asked them, “How has Jesus changed your life?”
Below are their responses.
Should You Become a Believer in Jesus?
While I’ve offered in this article a number of reasons why I think you should become a believer in Jesus, I left the number one reason to the end of this article.
The number one reason you and I should become believers in Jesus is because we need forgiveness for our sins.
What is sin?
God has a standard of how you and I are to behave and think. When we don’t follow that standard, then that’s called sin.
Sin can be wrong actions that we do, decisions that we make, or even bad thoughts.
For example, God says that we shouldn’t lie.
But how many lies have you told in your life? A lot, right?
Me too. I’m pretty sure that I’ve told thousands of lies in my life; black lies, white lies, and grey lies.
Have you ever stolen anything, even if it was something small?
I did. Actually, I’ve done that a number of times when I was younger.
Once when I was a kid, I shop lifted a toy from a store because my mom wouldn’t buy it for me.
But then she found out when she saw me playing with the toy, and she made me return it to the shop owner.
Maybe you’ve stolen something too. God says we shouldn’t steal.
Have you ever lusted after someone?
That means that you’ve physically fantasized after someone who isn’t your husband or your wife.
I have. I’ve done that many times.
God says that is considered adultery even if you just do it in your mind and don’t act on it.
But yet, there are still many people that sleep with their boyfriends, or their girlfriends.
God says that any type of sexual activity that’s outside of marriage is a sin.
Guilty Before God
So since you and I commit all kinds of sins every day, then we are guilty before God. We deserve to be judged for our sins.
The Bible says that the punishment for sin is death. Not physical death but spiritual death.
That means that you and I will not be able to go to heaven with God when we die, but we will go to hell.
Hell was never made for humans, but it was made for the devil and his demons.
God has done everything in His power in to keep us out hell.
Do you know what God did so you and I wouldn’t have to go to hell?
God sent His only begotten Son to take the punishment that you and I deserve.
I want you to imagine that you are a kid, and that you just received your report card.
You received all F’s. But your best friend received all A’s.
Now your best friend offers to swap report cards with you.
He will take your report card that has all F’s, and you’ll take his report card that has all A’s.
You take your report card home and show it to your parents. They are so proud of you!
You then go to your best friend to celebrate with him.
When you walk up to his house, you see that he is getting beat by his dad for getting a report card with straight F’s.
You feel bad for him because that’s supposed to be you! After all, you’re the one who got all F’s.
That’s what God did for you. You and I get F’s in the “good living” department, but Jesus swapped places with us.
Jesus took the beating for us when it should have been you and I.
All that Jesus asks is that you believe in Him for your salvation. He alone can save you.
What’s Your Decision?
You stand at a fork in the road.
The road on the left leads to the road that you’ve always followed. If you take that road, you’ll go down to the same life that you are living right now.
Or you can take the road on the right.
The right road is the road where you admit you’re a sinner, put your faith in Jesus, and choose to become His follower for the rest of your life.
This road is not an easy road but it is the road worth following.
If you want to start a new chapter in your life and take the right road, then you can start today by praying something like this:
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. I believe He rose again and still lives. Today, I repent and turn away from my sin. Help me to follow you all the days of my life. Thank You for Your wonderful love and for changing me forever. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Send me a message that you’ve decided to follow Jesus today and I will help you with your next steps as a Christian.
