Many people will read your Twitter bio before they decide if they want to follow you.
That’s why your bio is such an important part of your profile.
What makes a good bio?
It should include things that’ll make others want to follow you.
What Will Make People Follow You on Twitter?
Primarily, people on Twitter will want to follow you because you tweet things that they find valuable and because you share things that they find interesting.
That’s why I’m dedicating an entire section (step 5) about how to tweet things that others will find valuable.
It’s also really important to have a great bio.
It needs to line up with what you tweet about and who your target audience is. For example:
- Example 1: If you’re an Italian restaurant owner that wants to have an audience of people who like Italian cuisine, then you should tweet about Italian recipes, include pictures of your food, and engage with your customers.
Your Twitter bio should include things that would cause your target audience to want to follow you. Your bio can be something like:
- Example 1 bio: “Get delicious recipes of hard to find Italian dishes and exclusive coupons to use at our 5-star restaurant.”
You’re giving people two reasons to follow you: 1) Get recipes 2) Get coupons.
Here’s another example:
- Example 2: If you’re an online marketer who teaches others about social media and blogging, then you’ll want to have tweets that help people achieve their goals in these areas and you’ll tweet links to helpful articles.
- Example 2 bio: “Helping bloggers and business owners to become social media gurus while getting massive amounts of traffic to their sites.”
So how should you create your Twitter bio?
- Tell people what you do
- Explain how you help people or why others find your tweets valuable
- Show a little personality or humor if you can

Here’s another good example: check out what Michael Hyatt (former chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing) did with his Twitter bio.
Recommendation: Add a Call to Action to Your Bio
Calls to action are very powerful when it comes to social media. If you want people to follow you, then tell them in your Twitter bio.
Here’s my example that has helped me get about 800 new followers a week:
“Lover of God, people, tech, & jokes. Follow me if you’re into any of these 🙂”
My bio is short, simple, and has a call to action. It accurately reflects what I tweet about and it’s made to attract my target audience.
Action Steps
- Create a Twitter bio that tell’s your target audience what you do and why they’ll find your tweets valuable.
- Optional: add a call to action to your bio.
